The SIXTH time is the charm??????

We are headed for JJ's 6th surgery this week.  Seems pretty unbelievable to me as I type it.  Six surgeries in 9 months.  It's been quite a year, to say the least.  I will be updating Facebook and this blog to keep everyone informed on the surgery and recovery process.

Because of what radiation has done to JJ's skin in his chin and neck area, it's just not healthy or strong enough to keep the incisions closed.  Because the incisions won't stay closed, the bone transplant in the jaw has not and will not heal properly. SO, the surgeon will redo the reconstruction.  He will remove the bone and metal plate from the jaw, harvest new bone, tissue and skin from JJ's other leg and reconstruct the jaw again.  While we are not excited about JJ enduring major surgery again, we are hopeful that this will finally put him on the path to healing and out of the operating room.  Dr. Patil says that if all goes well with this surgery, JJ would be done with surgeries!! We are praising Jesus for what could be the last one!

We are also hopeful for a speedier and smoother recovery this time around. While the surgery will still be significant, they will not be removing tumors & lymph nodes or cutting in his mouth.  The surgeon says he will not have a feeding tube this time and probably not a trach either!  This is great news for JJ as those both were uncomfortable and difficult parts of recovery.

Surgery is Friday April 22 @ 7 am. JJ will spend at least 5 days in the hospital for recovery and then a few weeks at home in the recliner.

We are outrageously grateful for the continued support and prayers on this journey.  Thank you!!
